Is Writing Novels Worth It
Assuming we’re talking about a novel or other non-technical work, 7.5% of cover price is fairly standard for trade paperback. It’s low for hardcover (10% to 15% is typical), and for obscure historical reasons mass-market paperbacks usually work in even numbers, so 6% or 8% is more common, but I don’t see 7.5% as unacceptable.

Absolutely worth it. It's an incredible feeling, and like some others have pointed out, it's not something that everyone can say they've done or even do at all.
